The Habits of New Norcia

In the year of the “Voice to Parliament” Referendum.
SBS screens our film The Habits Of New Norcia and is available on SBS on Demand.

THE HABITS OF NEW NORCIA

A 53 minute documentary

This is the story of the Benedictine Aboriginal Mission at New Norcia, now a popular tourist nostalgia destination north of Perth, as told by former Aboriginal “inmates” who were placed in and tormented by this institution for the “care” of indigenous children separated from their families during the 1920s through to the 1960s –

“An orphanage without orphans”

“The Habits of New Norcia” challenges the quaint history that is dressed up for tourism and which is propagated at the Mission today, with the return of a repressed, violent and moving history, recalled by the “inmates” themselves.

Rain of Life

A composer friend of mine Valery Niazon wrote a piece of music for his Mum who recently passed away and for his dad who had died earlier.

Two choreographers and dancers set his composition “Rain Of Life”, to dance.

It was recently performed at the fringe festival.

With the permission of the composer and dancers I embed the film here. I found it very moving so I am sharing it.

Stay well.

Time and Space the Speed of Light

Ibiza, Spain

The winter solstice occurred in the Northern hemisphere yesterday.

Crowds gathered at ‘Time and Space the Speed of Light’ on Cala Llentia, Ibiza, Spain. They were there to dance and celebrate in the rays of the setting sun and to witness the alignment of the shadows on the gold topped central column.

This major stone structure is the 51st land art structure in the ‘Rhythms of Life’ land art project. A series of connected stone drawings on the earth which span the globe and are visible from space.
